Genetic Polymorphisms in New Zealand Sheep Breeds

Image
World Journal of Agriculture and Soil Science Animal production is a booming industry with the improvement of economically desirable traits as its primary concern. Markerassisted selection utilizes genetic variations within candidate genes that influence production traits as a means of guiding animal breeding and improving the traits of interest. Growth hormone (GH) plays a crucial role in pre-natal muscular and bone growth and development. GH brings about various physiological functions either directly by binding its receptor or indirectly by stimulating the release of insulin growth factor 1 (IGF1). Insulin growth factor 1 receptor (IGF1R) mediates its function on metabolism, homeostasis and development upon the binding of IGF1. The POU-domain class 1 transcription factor 1 (POU1F1) regulates the pre-natal development of cells of the anterior pituitary, including somatotrophs that produce GH. Reports have demonstrated associations between polymorphisms in these genes a...

Degradation of Synthetic Agro wastewater (Fipronil) using Electro Coagulation Process by Iron Electrodes

Image
World Journal of Agriculture and Soil Science The electrocoagulation of fipronil (insecticide) contaminated wastewater by Iron anodes has been investigated. During the various stages of electrolysis, parameters such as COD, chloride ion concentration, Fluoride were examined and discussed. The maximum chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency 70 %, chloride 62%, fluoride 40% was achieved at pH 7, operated at the current density of 7.5 mA/cm 2 , electrolyte (NaCl) concentration of .1M and at 120 min of electrolysis using iron anode. A neutral pH showed the maximum reduction of COD compared with alkaline and acidic pH. Increase in current density and process time led to the increase in COD removal. The experimental results showed that the electrochemical oxidation process could effectively reduce the COD from the fipronil contaminated wastewater. The degradation of fipronil was analyzed and confirmed by GC-MS and intermediate produced during the process. For More Open Acce...

Effect of Different Potassium Rates and Hybrid Maize Varieties on the Grain Yield Under Field Condition at South Sulawesi, Indonesia

Image
World Journal of Agriculture and Soil Science Potassium (K) is an essential nutrient for plant health and play critical roles in controlling protein metabolism, enzyme activity and various metabolic processes. In order to investigate the effect of different potassium rates and hybrid maize varieties on the yield and yield components of maize, an experiment was carried out at the Bajeng Experimental Station, Indonesian Cereals Research Institute, Gowa, South Sulawesi, from May to September 2017. The level of K on site of the experiment is 0.26 mg kg -1 . The potential grain yield of three hybrid maize varieties has different. Nasa-29 has potential grain yield (13.5 t ha -1 ), Bima-20 (12.8 t ha -1 ) and Bima-4 (11.7 t ha -1 ). The experiment was laid out in randomized split plot design with three replications having a plot size of 9 m x 6 m with planting density 75 x 25 cm. The main plot was provided with six different levels of potassium i.e. 0, 20, 40, 60, 80 and 100 kg...

Cytochrome P450 Gene in Silkworm (Bombyx mori): A Review Article

Image
World Journal of Agriculture and Soil Science To understand features of cytochrome P450 genes in silkworm, the advances in silkworm genome projects created a new genome wide analysis tool that enables us to seek cytochrome P450 genes constitutes and their diversities. This has provided not only an opportunity for divergence in their substrate specificity identification, but also for divergence in their regulatory attributes, such as differing patterns of induction, tissue specific expression, and developmental expression. However, different researchers so far made different efforts to identify number of cytochrome p450 genes in Bomboxy mori, they came up with slightly different numbers which ranges from 79 to 86 putative cytochrome p450 genes. Then, it urges us to undertake further investigate in order to arrive at certain consensuses putative cytochrome p450 genes number.
